Ireen D. Vandewater, CPA
Accounting / Human Resources
Ireen comes to Efferent with a wealth of business and accounting experience. She’s a Certified Public Accountant with a Master’s of Science degree from Long Island University’s C.W. Post campus, where she also earned her Bachelor’s degree.
Prior to joining our team, Ireen worked at the New York office of the California Franchise Tax Board. In addition to supervising a team of auditors and working on cases, she was also the Training Coordinator at CA FTB. Ireen organized college recruiting, was responsible for on boarding and managing orientation for new employees and coordinated the board’s training program. She also worked for a Massapequa-based accountant helping clients set up businesses, resolving their disputes with governmental agencies and preparing tax returns for businesses and individuals.
Ireen keeps the business and personnel end of Efferent running smoothly on a daily basis as our Accountant and Human Resources Manager. After working in New York and traveling extensively, she was looking for a position with a wide range of job responsibilities. She chose Efferent because she wanted to be part of a dynamic, cutting edge organization. She prides herself on bringing ethics and empathy to the job as well as a talent for organizing large, sometimes confusing projects and making them manageable.
When she’s not organizing budgets and payroll or making sure the bills get paid, Ireen enjoys hiking and backpacking with her dogs. She has done volunteer work on Long Island tagging horseshoe crabs for Cornell Cooperative Extension and categorizing native plants for Nature Conservancy.
Ireen’s ideal place to live would be a log cabin on a river by the woods with an ocean five miles to the east and mountains five miles to the west.
Each new employee of Efferent Media is required to read the office copy of “Raving Fans: A Revolutionary Approach to Customer Service” by Kenneth H. Blanchard & Sheldon Bowles. This delightful book, written as a fable, stresses three key principles for business success: Integrity, Passion, and Over-Delivering. All of us at Efferent — including interns and part-timers — must read this book and absorb its message. It’s a pact with the company — and even with ourselves — that we will never settle for simply “satisfying” customers.
