Megan combines a love of writing with a passion for digital marketing, which makes her ideal for her position as a community manager at Efferent Media. She is a recent graduate of Baruch College where she earned her journalism degree and has honed her writing skills at The Ticker, the school’s award winning newspaper and website. Megan reported on news, art and culture and created a weekly column for the publication.
She also did volunteer work and internships at two music and entertainment publications, Vibe and The Fader. She pitched, researched and wrote up stories for Vibe while also covering events and conducting interviews. Megan served in an editorial assistant role at The Fader where she used social media analytics to assist reporters in identifying trending topics to cover and performed fact checking and research. Megan also wrote reviews and other original content for Cypher League Media.
But it was her stint as a content creator at Baruch’s Lawrence N. Field for Entrepreneurship that inspired Megan’s love of digital marketing. “This experience truly allowed me to really graze the surface of what digital marketing is and what it could be,” she says. “Although my first passion is writing, I grew to love creating content and understanding audience engagement.”
She was responsible for increasing awareness of the Field Center’s services, promoting major conferences, attended by noteworthy speakers as well as other events, including the center’s annual Global Family Business Event. These functions kept her busy as she snapped photos, did live posts on social media, and wrote up recaps.
Megan is a self-taught guitar player, who hopes to be a published author one day. But for now she’s thrilled to be working with Efferent’s Social Media department.
“I think that all of it is extremely fun and there can never be a day where social media can become boring,” she says. “Audience engagement and how we interact is always changing just like the rest of the field, and that’s very cool!”
