A passion for the right turn of phrase and an avid love of books led Mike to his love of spotting, categorizing and creating content for websites that draws audiences and keeps them coming back.
As SEO (search engine optimization) analyst for Efferent Media, Mike is responsible for culling through tons of numbers, spreadsheets and other key analytic elements such as keyword research, site traffic and patterns, and customer engagement.
Working closely with the SEO and content teams, Mike translates that information and identifies content trends that attract the right eyeballs to our clients’ websites, as well as on-page optimization adjustments that help organically boost the ranking of our clients’ websites on the search engines.
Mike’s efforts to discover hidden content gems and previously untapped SEO techniques are all backed by solid analytics and numbers, and ultimately increase not only site ranking, but also on-site engagement and content share ability.
Before joining Efferent Media, Mike gained experience as the lead copywriter at Deer Park, New York-based Barron Designs, an online retailer with four ecommerce websites. There, he updated all four of the company’s websites to maintain and improve click-through rate (CTR), the number of site visits and the time spent on page. He also honed his SEO skills at Barron, where he optimized pages, performed keyword research and regularly studied analytics for all four sites.
He brings that experience to his role as SEO analyst at Efferent. He also lends his ability to work with various departments to ensure all are working toward improving year-over-year SEO results for each of our clients.
Mike is a member of the Mayflower Society and the Pilgrim Edward Doty Society, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from LIU Post, the latter of which dovetails nicely with his love of books, comics, graphic novels and all things content and SEO. His appetite for learning best SEO practices continues with his regular attendance of SES NY and SMX East and by tapping into MOZ’s online knowledge base.
When Mike isn’t immersed in analytics for Efferent’s clients, he enjoys playing tabletop role-playing games and has been doing so regularly for the past eight-plus years and sporadically for several years before that. He also likes to play board and card games with friends.
Each new employee of Efferent Media is required to read the office copy of “Raving Fans: A Revolutionary Approach to Customer Service” by Kenneth H. Blanchard & Sheldon Bowles. This delightful book, written as a fable, stresses three key principles for business success: Integrity, Passion, and Over-Delivering. All of us at Efferent — including interns and part-timers — must read this book and absorb its message. It’s a pact with the company — and even with ourselves — that we will never settle for simply “satisfying” customers.
