Joe Corallo

Contribution Writer

Joe brings a wealth of writing and editing experience to Efferent Media’s Content Marketing department.

A graduate of Hofstra University with a dual Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History and a minor in Philosophy, Joe started his career in politics. He worked for the Democratic Party as Iowa Senate Majority Fund campaign manager and Florida Regional field director. From there he moved on to positions at the Alliance for Climate Protection and for state legislative candidates.

Joe’s first foray into marketing and advertising was handling ad buys and other tasks for the political candidate clients of Mandy Katowitz Media, Inc. He then spent a few years as operations manager for the New York State Trial Lawyers Association.

Writing has been a consistent thread throughout Joe’s career, and soon he was writing for a variety of websites such as [InsertGeekHere] and Geek.com. He started at Geeks OUT as a contributing writer and later became the blog’s editor-in-chief.

Fun Fact

I was a national finalist in the 2003 Kids Philosophy.

Interviews for ComicMix that Joe did with comic book industry luminaries like Paul Jenkins, Rachel Pollack, and Scott Lobdell turned into editing, organizing, and managing ComicMix crowdfunding projects. Among such projects was Mine!, a comics anthology that raised money for Planned Parenthood and featured contributors such as Neil Gaiman, Amber Benson, Mara Wilson, and more. His other anthology work has appeared in Our Hearts Still Beat Volume 2, This Nightmare Kills Fascists, The Gathering: Music, and Geeks OUT Presents: Power.

“My two biggest passions are political activism and comics, which culminated in organizing and co-editing the Eisner nominated and Ringo Award winning comics anthology Mine!,” said Joe.

Joe co-created She Said Destroy for Vault Comics, and it was the publisher’s highest selling first issue as of the time of its release. He followed that release with his second comics mini-series, Becstar, for Mad Cave Studios in which it’s first issue went on to a second printing. He also contributed to the Ignatz Award-nominated Dates: Volume 3 by Margins Publishing and Mark Bouchard’s Everything is Going Wrong.

As an editor, Joe’s eye for detail and research experience is also put to good use. Joe has edited OH S#!T IT’S KIM & KIM for Black Mask Studios, which was nominated for a GLAAD Award. He also edited Lost on Planet Earth at ComiXology Originals as well as multiple currently unannounced editing projects. Joe curated and co-edited the Ringo Award-nominated anthology Dead Beats for A. Wave Blue World.

“Having a story I edited nominated for an Eisner Award in my first comics anthology will always be something I’m proud of and will keep pushing me to excel further in my writing and editing skills,” said Joe.

So how did Joe end up working for Efferent Media? “A passion for writing and continuing to hone my skills in copywriting. Marketing helps people find the products they want and need,” said Joe.

Joe spends his free time reading comics and graphic novels, and watching movies – the more obscure, the better. For his dream job, Joe dreams big.

“The ultimate dream would be to be the architect of a beloved franchise to give people the kind of creativity, inspiration, and escapism that has given me joy over the years,” said Joe.
