A life-long love affair with computers and a global pandemic helped bring Lou to his dream of web design and the Efferent Media team. Lou is an Army veteran who fought in the War on Terror and came home to follow his passion working on computers.
As the web developer for Efferent Media, Lou’s responsible for making our websites work, doing all the behind the scenes coding that makes it easy to find things on the websites we design and make them attractive to the websites’ visitors. Lou said he “grew up computers” and when he’s not at work, you’ll likely find him with his pet dogs and cats, or behind his keyboard.

His goal, when designing a website, is to make the magic happen. His favorite quote from Arthur C. Clarke is “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic” and Lou wants to make magic happen.
After all, he said, “Who doesn’t like magic?”
Lou joined the Army right after high school and now translates that service to helping other veterans. He is the future assistant commander of American Legion Post 269, taking over that role in June 2022, and hopes one to move on to commander. Until the pandemic struck, he also served veterans as a driver and shelter monitor for United Veterans’ Beacon House helping to ensure that older and disabled veterans had adequate transportation to their appointments at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
But Lou also had his love of computers, art and cartooning, so when the opportunity arose to go back to college and finish his certificate in web design, with the encouragement of his wife, Lou opted to follow his dream.
The challenge, as he saw it, was translating ideas into websites. “Web development and design is about structuring an idea. Take any idea and describe it, picture it in your mind and help others’ see what you see,” Lou said.
“When I was small, computers were nothing more than fancy calculators. Today, they are hand-held windows into the world with all of human knowledge attainable at one’s fingertips.”
With that knowledge, comes great responsibility. So what is that responsibility for Lou?
“I like laughter; I enjoy putting smiles on peoples’ faces and pulling laughs from their bellies. I tend to be aloof and whimsical just as much as I am methodical. My boss, Joe, grumbles when I tell a really bad dad joke to the office. That makes my day.”
