AI & Automation · Capability
Voice agents, automation, internal tools and custom AI systems, built around a real business problem instead of a generic product.

YouYour calendar, your numbers, your recordings, whether or not we keep working togetherWhat does an AI system actually do for a business?
Three things worth paying for, and a lot of noise. It answers the phone when nobody is there, in your name, and books on your real calendar. It takes the repetitive work nobody has time for: the follow-up, the reporting, the handoffs between systems. And where no product exists to buy, it can be written, which is the part most agencies cannot offer. Everything else being sold as AI marketing is, for now, mostly noise.
The one that pays first
Not a phone tree and not a message service. A voice agent that answers in your name, reads your real calendar, books on it, and hands the caller to a person when a person is what they need. Both figures below describe lines that are answering calls today.
Drawn, and every box is a tool wired on a live line right now rather than a capability on a roadmap. Read off the assistants themselves on 2026-10-21.
Efferent Media, our own line
“Thank you for calling Efferent Media. This is Debbie. How can I help you today?”
Good Guys Contracting, after hours
“Thank you for calling Good Guys Contracting, this is Alex. What can I help you with today?”
Both files are the openings actually served on those lines, not a demo recorded for this page. The transcripts beside them were produced by transcribing the audio rather than copied from the assistant’s script. The Efferent clip starts on two real rings because that is where the caller starts.
Not a measurement and not a client’s number. It is 168 hours against the assumption printed on the figure. Change your hours and the picture changes; the part that does not change is that calls arrive in the dark cells too.
When the software does not exist
Most operational problems are not a missing subscription. They are a workflow nobody sells a product for, and that is the point where buying stops working and building starts. Where we draw that line is the first thing we will tell you, because the answer is sometimes that you should buy something cheap instead.
Drawn, not captured. The right column is not a staffing gap we intend to close later. It is where the line stays.
Drawn, not captured. The top row is the shape we refuse to ship, and it is the shape most abandoned automation has.
What you actually see
Journey is our own portal, and it is the oldest thing on this page: we built it because assembling a client report by hand is a day nobody should spend. The numbers are pulled, checked and assembled without a person building the document, which is also why it is not three weeks late. The sentence at the top is written by a human, because what the month MEANT was always the human job.
Journey is our own client portal. Every client gets a login on day one, and every figure on it traces to their own records rather than to a platform dashboard. Captured from a live client view with the account name, the login email and the client’s own domain replaced before the screenshot was taken.
How we run it
Roughly this order on most accounts, because each one funds the next. Every item is measurable, which is the test we apply before building anything.
01 / 06
01
The call that rings out at 7pm is the most expensive thing in most local businesses, and it does not appear in any report. A voice agent answers it, books what can be booked, and tells you what it could not.
Usually the first thing we build, because it pays the fastest
02
Including at 9pm on a Sunday. The chance of reaching a new lead falls steeply and early, and most of that loss happens before anyone in the office has seen it.
03
Quotes that went quiet, last season's estimates, the leads that came in during the busy week. Sequences keep asking, politely, forever.
04
Pulled, checked and delivered without a person building it, which is also how it stops being three weeks late.
05
Only once the obvious wins are banked, and only where buying something has genuinely been ruled out. A custom build is the expensive answer and it should be the second one you hear, not the first.
We will talk you out of it if something cheap already does the job
06
Every system we ship has a named owner and a check that would catch it failing. An unwatched automation is not a system, it is an outage waiting for a quiet week.
A gate with no witness is not a gate
We use this stuff ourselves
Most of what we build started as a problem inside our own company or inside a client’s. Nothing below is a prototype, a roadmap or a demo. Each one is running today, and each line says where.
01
The after-hours line at Good Guys Contracting, a Long Island siding and roofing company, is answered by an agent we built. It reads their real estimating calendar, offers only the slots that are genuinely open, and books the in-home estimate on the call.

02
We run one ourselves, on an Efferent line and on our medical brand’s. Ours does something most do not: before it transfers anybody it checks whether the person is free and asks them whether they want to take the call. It also knows if you rang last week.
LIVE · our own lines · asks before it transfers
03
Minutes after a caller hangs up, the whole conversation arrives as an email, word for word. There is no AI summary in it on purpose: an earlier version summarized a call and invented a detail nobody had said, so now nothing composed by a machine reaches a client.
LIVE · checks every five minutes · verbatim, never summarized
04
It picks the music, reads the weather, runs a daily Long Island trivia question and takes requests from the team. Nobody sells this and we are not selling it. We built it because we wanted it, which is the honest reason most of these start. Our president wrote up how it got built: I built the office a radio station, and it hired a DJ.
LIVE · weekdays, 8:32am to 5pm · not a product
AI should solve a problem, not add another subscription.Where we start
The first conversation is about the problem, not the technology. Quite often the answer is that something cheap and boring already does it, and we will tell you that rather than build you something.

Scope
The newest part of the job
Buyers increasingly ask an assistant instead of typing a search, and an assembled answer cites a handful of sources rather than listing ten. Ranking fourth still earns a click. Being left out of the answer earns nothing at all.
That is a different optimization problem from ranking, and it is one we work on deliberately: clear answers, real structure, verifiable facts and content that is genuinely worth citing. It is also the one part of this page where the work is still young enough that anybody claiming certainty is guessing.
Drawn, not captured. A results page is a list, and fourth place on it still earns a click. An assembled answer cites a handful of sources or it cites you, which is why this is a different piece of work from ranking rather than the same work done harder.

The honest version. Research got faster, reporting got cheaper, judgment stayed scarce, and one thing genuinely moved for a local business: where the answer comes from.
FAQ
Straight answers. If something is not here, ask us on the audit call.
On the phone, yes, if that is what you are buying, and you approve exactly what it says and what it refuses to say before it answers a single call. Everywhere else it is mostly acknowledgement and scheduling. Anything needing judgment goes to a person.
It books. It reads your real calendar, offers only the slots that are genuinely open, and writes the appointment back. We run exactly that on a Long Island contractor's after-hours line today. Where nobody is free and nothing can be booked, it takes the message word for word instead.
If they ask, it answers honestly in one sentence. It does not volunteer it, and that is your call to make either way, not ours.
It sounds like whatever we write, in a voice you pick, and you hear it before it goes live. The opening is a recorded line rather than a synthesized one, because the first three seconds are what decides whether somebody hangs up.
Software written for one business because no product does the job: an internal tool, a knowledge system your staff can ask questions of, a workflow that connects two systems nobody built a bridge between. We have written several, including a few for ourselves.
Regularly. A custom build costs more than a subscription and takes longer, so if something off the shelf does the job we say so. The first conversation is about the problem, not the technology.
Mostly in whether it is actually running. Most CRMs ship with the capability and almost nobody finishes the setup, so the sequences exist and nothing fires.
Work that makes your business the source an assistant draws on when somebody asks it a question instead of running a search: clear answers, real structure, consistent facts across the web and content that is genuinely worth citing.
You find out from us, because every system we ship has a check that fires when it stops. An automation nobody is watching is the most expensive kind.
It replaces the work nobody had time to do anyway, which is usually the follow-up and the phone that rang after hours. Nobody we have worked with has cut a person because of it.
