What is different about marketing in Suffolk County?
Distance and seasonality. Suffolk is large and spread out, so drive time is a genuine cost and a service area that looks reasonable on a map can be unprofitable in practice. The East End adds extreme seasonality and a second-home audience that searches very differently in July than in February. Coverage here is built around where crews actually go, not around a radius.
The Suffolk problem
Suffolk service areas are where profitability quietly leaks. Two identical jobs at different ends of a coverage area have very different margins once drive time and fuel are counted, and most ad accounts treat them as identical.
So coverage gets built and priced around real drive time, and bids follow the towns worth driving to.
How we run Suffolk
Five adjustments we make for a Suffolk account.
01 / 05
01
Not a radius. The towns your crews already pass through are the cheapest to win.
02
After drive time. Two towns with the same search volume can have very different margins.
03
East of Riverhead the population changes with the calendar and the search behavior changes with it.
The shoulder seasons are frequently where the margin is
04
Where there are fewer competitors and position is cheaper to earn than to buy.
05
Most of this workforce is in a truck. Missed call recovery matters more here than anywhere.

As far as a job is still profitable after drive time, which is a different answer per trade and usually closer than owners assume.
For the right categories, yes, and it is intensely seasonal. A second-home audience searches very differently in July than in February.
Generally cheaper per click and more spread out, so the cost per job depends heavily on how far you are driving.
Bid them separately and lower, or exclude them. Leaving them in at full bid is how a service area quietly stops being profitable.
Yes, and the seasonality and drive time considerations there are the sharpest on the Island.
